The City of Sveta Nedelja has received approval for the project “Development of documentation for the geothermal water exploration phase in the area of Sveta Nedelja”. The contract for the project was signed with the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds on 24 June 2022.
Following the tender of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds titled “Issuance of technical documentation for the use of geothermal energy” within the framework of the “Energy and Climate Action” Programme, which is funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014 – 2021 in the Republic of Croatia (Agreement from the European Union, Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Kingdom of Norway), the City of Sveta Nedelja has submitted the project “Development of documentation for the geothermal water exploration phase in the area of Sveta Nedelja”, which has been approved, and the contract for the same has been signed.
The total value of the project is EUR 372,006.43 and the eligible costs amount to EUR 316,205.47, i.e. 85%.
The project implementation period is from 13 April 2022 to 13 April 2024.
The project is planned to be carried out in cooperation with the construction company Svenkom d.o.o., as well as with our Icelandic partners – EFLA Consulting Engineers, and Eko plodovi d.o.o. (partner in the Republic of Croatia). According to the City of Sveta Nedjelja, during the project implementation, the documentation will be developed and certain exploratory works will be carried out, and so through reaserch into the use the geothermal potential, The City of Sveta Nedelja will be able to activate it as well, for the needs of public institutions and Working together for a green Europe | www.eeagrants.hr private users. Their partner, on the other hand, will create a foundation for increasing geothermal production capacity, given that current capacity with the existing well is insufficient. As green energy is at the heart of Sveta Nedelja’s development, according to the City of Sveta Nedelja, the project will utilise the existing geothermal resources, as well as provide an optimal location for the production of geothermal energy in the area of Sveta Nedelja. “We want our Sveta Nedelja to be a city of the future and successfully utilise alternative sources of energy. Our efforts have been recognised by the Government of the Republic of Croatia and our international partners, and the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds has allocated 2.5 million kuna for the evelopment of documentation on geothermal resource exploration. Energy independence is in the interest of our city and the Republic of Croatia. We must use these considerable funds wisely to explore all the potential of geothermal energy in our region,” said Mayor Dario Zurovec.
The City of Sveta Nedelja has secured funding for the project “Development of documentation for the phase of geothermal water exploration in the area of Sveta Nedelja” from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014 – 2021, as well as national co-funding from the Republic of Croatia through the “Energy and climate change” Program.
