The City of Sveta Nedelja participated in the Conference on Geothermal Energy organised by the Zagreb Student Chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, held at the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum of the University of Zagreb from 07 to 09 October 2024.
The aim of the conference was to highlight the great opportunities that exist in Croatia when it comes to exploiting the potential of geothermal energy.
At the conference, experts in the field of geology and geothermal energy presented positive examples of the use of geothermal energy and related technology. One of the projects presented was the project of the City of Sveta Nedelja, where the construction of an exploratory well for the exploitation of geothermal energy for heating purposes is planned. The presentation of the study of the geothermal potential of the Sveta Nedelja 2 geothermal water exploration area was given by M.Sc. Željka Sladović from the company GEODA Advising from Zagreb, and the conference was attended by Deputy Mayor Gabrijel Deak and technical manager of the project Ivan Abramović.

The project ” Development of technical documentation for the use of geothermal energy” is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 with national co-funding from the Republic of Croatia under the “Energy and Climate Change” Programme.
Sustainable development and protection of the environment are the goals of the project – once the projects following the drilling of the well and the acquisition of the exploitation field are completed, CO2 emissions will be reduced and energy will be used that is independent of weather conditions and the price of energy sources.
