Workshop and subsequent conferences in Grad Vukovar and Grad Kutina

On Monday 22nd June, the representatives of the City of Sveti Nedelja, Ms Martina Fabijan and Mr Ivan Abramović, participated in the workshop and final conference held in the City of Vukovar, where the activities and results of the projects “Clean Energy for Vukovar” and “Sun over Vukovar” were presented.

EFLA Consulting Engineers is a project partner in the “Clean Energy for Vukovar” project. Mr Hafsteinn Helgason, a representative of EFLA Consulting Engineers, addressed the participants via video link and emphasised the importance of projects aimed at the use of geothermal energy and presented the experiences and results from Iceland.

Filip Sušac, Deputy Mayor, explained the importance of both projects for the City of Vukovar. Speaking about the Clean Energy for Vukovar project, he said that it was a key strategic project that would help Vukovar develop its geothermal potential. After this phase, in which the technical documentation of the project has been developed, the next phase is planned to be an application for the construction of new drilling sites. The main objective is to connect the heating plant to the geothermal sources, so that in the long term the citizens will have more affordable heating energy.

On Tuesday, 23rd June, representatives of the City of Sveta Nedelja, Ms Martina Fabijan and Mr Ivan Abramović, participated in the final conference of the project “Preparation of technical documentation for geothermal water exploration in the Batina area in Kutina” in the City of Kutina.

Mr Stjepan Badanjak, the project manager from the Development Agency MRAV d.o.o., presented the activities and results of the project, and Ms Željka Sladović from GEODA Consulting d.o.o. presented the technical part of the Study on the Geothermal Potential of Kutina.

Mr Hrvoje Kremlić, Head of the Department of Economy, Business and Development of Kutina, also addressed the participants, emphasising the importance of the project, which aims to exploit the geothermal potential of the Kutina exploration area for the production and combined use of geothermal energy for district heating.

Through joint workshops and conferences of cities implementing the same and similar projects, common experiences are being shared in the development of projects that plan and promote the use of energy with less carbon emissions and increased security of supply for their citizens.

The project ” Development of technical documentation for the use of geothermal energy” is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 with national co-funding from the Republic of Croatia under the “Energy and Climate Change” Programme.

Sustainable development and protection of the environment are the goals of the project – once the projects following the drilling of the well and the acquisition of the exploitation field are completed, CO2 emissions will be reduced and energy will be used that is independent of weather conditions and the price of energy sources.
